Praise for Discipline Without Damage

I love this book! A rare combination of science-based, practical, respectful, and effective discipline. Reinforcing that connection is the key. Discipline without Damage guides us to see behavior issues with new eyes so that we can more effectively respond in ways that are effective, and that build relational and neural connections that promote optimal development, independence, and success.

Dr. Tina Payne Bryson – co-author of New York Times Bestselling books The Whole-Brain Child and No-Drama Discipline

In Discipline Without Damage, Dr. Vanessa Lapointe explores the important question of why we discipline rather than just how. We need to question the notion that the only way to raise happy, capable and caring future adults is to punish children when they don’t behave according to our wishes. In fact, by showing that children really need kindness, fairness and a caring, safe environment, Dr. Lapointe has created a trustworthy resource for parents.

Maggie Dent – Parenting Educator, Speaker and Author of “9 Things: A Back-to Basics Guide to Calm, Common-sense, Connected Parenting Birth-8”

In this eloquent book, Dr. Lapointe makes a powerful case for disciplining our children without power struggles, manipulation or control. An insightful guide for all parents!

Dr. Shefali Tsabary, PhD – Author of the New York Times bestselling book The Conscious Parent

In Discipline without Damage, Dr. Lapointe shows why communication and connection are so important for our children. And why it is especially important for us adults to discipline ourselves so that we don’t go down the path of disconnection in the name of good behavior. Read this book and discover creative ways to be with your children and respect them for who they are.

Vikram Vij – Chef, TV personality and author of Vij’s at Home

Discipline Without Damage is one of the best parenting books I have read in years. This book is not about how to get your child to cooperate by using time-outs, consequences, threats, punishments, star charts, praise, or any other discipline approach. In fact, Dr. Lapointe’s genius is in clearly showing how conventional discipline creates children who are needy, demanding, bossy, aggressive and difficult. Unfortunately, the main lesson children learn from our discipline is that our love for them is conditional, contingent on their ability to control their behavior. Luckily, Lapointe has some answers, including helpful recommendations on how parents can step up to be the leaders in their house—what she calls “Hulking Up.” (That idea alone is worth the price of the book.) I hope this book makes it onto every parent’s shortlist. I think it can change the world!

Dr Laura Markham, PhD – Founder of AHAparenting.com, and New York Times best-selling author of Peaceful Parents, Happy Kid

Dr. Lapointe has given parents, family members and the professionals who work with them a wonderful gift. Discipline without Damage should be required reading for us all. Written from a deep pool of experience and knowledge, this practical book helps us understand what children need to thrive.
